◯　Can I submit more than one research topic?

​​​​

→　No. Each participant may submit one research topic only.​

​​

​​

◯　Do I need to give a presentation in front of my research poster?

​​​​​

→　No.

You do not need to stand by your poster or give presentations to visitors.

You are only required to come to the venue for your 3-Minute Presentation. If you are invited to participate in a Special Session, please also attend the venue at the scheduled time.

At other times, you are welcome to visit whenever convenient during the five-day event. We encourage you to read the sticky-note comments left on your poster, leave comments on other posters, and enjoy interacting with other participants.

If you have already submitted your research poster and scheduled your 3-Minute Presentation but are unable to come to the venue due to unavoidable circumstances, please contact the organizing team.

◯　Do I need to stay at the venue throughout the event?

​​​​

→　No.

The only required activity is one 3-Minute Presentation, held from 13:00 to 14:30 each day.

If you are invited to participate in a Special Session, you will also be asked to attend that session.

Both the 3-Minute Presentations and Special Sessions will take place in the central session area.

You do not need to remain at the venue at other times and are welcome to visit whenever convenient during the five-day event.

3-Minute Presentations may be given in Japanese or English. Special Sessions will be conducted in Japanese only.

◯　I'm worried that some posters may receive many comments while others receive only a few.

​​​​

→　The number of comments a poster receives does not necessarily reflect the quality of the research.

However, highly specialized topics may be more difficult for researchers from other fields or members of the general public to understand. We therefore recommend framing your research question from a slightly broader perspective so that people outside your field can engage with it.

Another approach is to describe the original curiosity or question that inspired your research. Such questions often resonate across disciplinary and organizational boundaries.

◯　I completed both the Preliminary Registration and Research Poster Submission. When will I know whether my application has been accepted?

​​

→ Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. If poster slots are still available when you complete your Preliminary Registration, your participation is confirmed at that point.

You will receive an automatic confirmation email after submitting the Preliminary Registration Form.

 

Please note, however, that although applications are accepted without a selection process, the organizing team reserves the right to decline content or images considered academically inappropriate, with reference to standards generally applied to publicly funded academic research.

​◯　Can I ask for advice about my research topic before submitting it?

 

→　Absolutely! Please contact us through the inquiry form.

Many researchers consult with us before submitting their topics, so please feel free to get in touch.

◯　What should I know about confidentiality?​​

​

→　The purpose of this event is to openly share research and receive comments and feedback from people with diverse backgrounds, helping participants further develop their research questions and ideas.

The venue is open not only to researchers, but also to representatives from industry and government, students, and members of the general public. Research posters can therefore be freely viewed by a wide range of visitors.

Please do not include unpublished research findings, confidential information, intellectual property-related information, or any other content that should not be made public.

Before submitting your poster content, please make sure that all information is appropriate for public disclosure.

◯　How should I list my co-researchers?

​​​

→　This event uses an anonymous poster format, and researchers' names are not displayed on the research posters.

For the Research Poster Submission, please provide the name, affiliation, and other information of one representative researcher only. If your research has multiple researchers, only the representative researcher needs to submit the application.

◯　What if all 80 poster slots have already been filled?

​​

→　Due to venue capacity and budget limitations, we cannot display more than 80 research posters.

However, you may join the waiting list.

If a poster slot becomes available due to a cancellation or because a participant is no longer able to attend the required 3-Minute Presentation, we will contact those on the waiting list in order.

Please note that we cannot predict which dates may become available. If a slot opens, we will contact you to discuss which presentation dates you are able to attend.

◯Do I need to submit a completely different topic from the one I presented at a previous Kyoto Dai 100 nin Ronbun ?​​

​​​

→　No.

You may submit the same research topic, provided that you update the content to reflect subsequent developments in your research, new questions, or new perspectives.

◯　Can I apply with my research topic in English?​​

​​​​

→　Yes, applications in English are welcome.

For the event, your research poster will be displayed in both English and Japanese. If possible, we would greatly appreciate it if you could also provide a Japanese translation of your text. However, if this is difficult, the organizing team will prepare the Japanese translation in cooperation with URAs (University Research Administrator).

Please note that, as both the English and Japanese texts will be included on one poster, the font size may be smaller than that of Japanese-only posters. Research Poster Application Guidelines are available in English.

◯　What is the purpose of this anonymous, interdisciplinary poster event?

​​​​

▶ For participating researchers

Receiving comments from people outside your field can introduce you to new perspectives and vocabulary, broaden your research, and help you reconsider where your work fits within a wider context. It is also simply encouraging to see people engage with and respond to your research questions.

 

▶ For visitors

The event offers an opportunity not only to satisfy intellectual curiosity, but also to experience the value of academic research beyond the question of whether it has an immediate practical application.

Many elementary, junior high, and high school students interested in inquiry-based learning also attend with their teachers and families, creating opportunities to connect with academia and the university.

▶ For the academic community

The event creates a space where researchers can engage with one another's questions beyond disciplinary boundaries and conventional measures of academic achievement. In doing so, it aims to foster a richer environment for academic inquiry and dialogue.

◯　I've seen “100nin Ronbun” events at other universities. Are they related?​​

​​

→　The 100nin Ronbun format—an anonymous, interdisciplinary research poster event built around three questions—was first held at Kyoto University in 2016.

​

Since then, the concept has spread by word of mouth and has been adopted by more than 30 universities and academic organizations across Japan, including the University of Tokyo, Nagoya University, University of Tsukuba, Sophia University, Hiroshima University, Ritsumeikan University, JST Science Agora, and others.

In February 2026, the initiative received the Science Council of Japan President's Award at the 8th Japan Open Innovation Prize, organized by the Cabinet Office.
